Dogs are fun loving animals especially when they are still puppies. It is better to acquire a pet from the time they are still young so you can have the hands on experience of training your puppy. For first time pet owners, training can be very overwhelming as they don’t know what to expect or how to go about it.
Many pet owners like crate training a puppy. Just what is crate training, you may ask? Simply put, it is giving your puppy a den or a dwelling place. The general objective for crate training is to teach your pup to remain in his crate without spoiling it. The prime idea is to teach your pet not to eliminate where he sleeps and eats.
This means that your puppy cannot eliminate within his crate. It is best to choose a crate that is big enough for your puppy to stretch, stand, sit and lie down. One has to find a size that’s adequate and comfy but not too big. It is effective to put the crate where your pup can observe the activities in your house. This will aid your pet in becoming familiar with the way things are done in your home. The important part is that your puppy is with you.
It is also a good idea to feed your puppy at the same time every day. This would help him develop a regular pattern for eating and eliminating as well. After your pup’s feeding time, be certain to take him out for his time to eliminate, at the spot you have set, for his toilet. This would get him used to the idea that dumping doesn’t happen in his den. It’s also helpful to bring him out the same door all the time so he knows that when he has to go, he stands next to that same door.
Crate training is a useful tool to make sure that all is in order in your house. Additionally it will give you a well behaved puppy who can live in peach with his human family. Keeping track of your puppy’s mistakes and rewarding him for good behavior is the best thing to do. Even when he does commit a mistake, don’t scold him, but teach him what’s right.
