Whilst German Shepherds are not toy dogs, they make fantastic companions. The Boxer belongs to the working breed of dog and was developed from the bigger mastiff type of dogs used in Germany for hunting. The reason this particular breed was bred to begin with was simply because there was a need for a hunting dog which could keep speed with a horse while being powerful enough to assist holding on to the prey. Golden Retrievers originated from Scottland and were mainly developed as hunting dogs.
